Still Hidden Conference Workshops

Through Greater Manchester Talent Match’s Still Hidden Conference, taking place on 11th October, 2018, our aim is to create a platform from which we can continue to improve the life chances for young people furthest from employment in Greater Manchester.

In addition to hearing from influential keynote speakers, participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of engaging workshops that will draw upon our experiences of working with young people, community sector organisations and employers across Greater Manchester.

We’re pleased to announce the day’s range of workshops as follows:

In tune, same page? The truth about multi-partner, multi-sector delivery partnerships

Learn more about how the GM Talent Match partnership negotiated the complexities of managing relationships between the voluntary, public and private sectors. What was innovative and flexible, what was unmanageable and time consuming and why are multi- sector partnerships essential to addressing the challenges we face in Greater Manchester?

Tapping into talent: How to attract your hidden future workforce

A holistic approach to reducing youth unemployment doesn’t just focus on increasing young people’s employability, it’s also about bringing existing opportunities within their reach.  GM Talent Match, in partnership with Business in the Community, has supported employers to make their jobs more accessible to young people with multiple barriers. Learn more about our successes and the benefits to employers of injecting new, young talent into the workforce.

Co-production: making it work for everyone

Hear about the highlights and challenges of working co-productively with young people and statutory services. This workshop will reference a case study of working with the Department for Work and Pensions to improve young peoples’ engagement with Jobcentre Plus. Participants will receive links to an infographic and animated presentation from the research phase of the project, as well a copy of the co-production agreement that they could amend in their own work.

Talking the same language: The impact of keyworkers and community-based organisations

Find out about GM Talent Match’s successes in finding local solutions to youth unemployment. Learn how community-based organisations are essential to finding young people in need and providing one-to-one, long-term holistic support to young people furthest from the workforce.

Not just tokenism: The benefits and learning of involving young people in project design and delivery

Find out how young people have been crucial to the decision making, design, delivery and evaluation of the GM Talent Match programme. Hear about the innovative ways young people have contributed to the programme.

In sight, in mind: A deeper look at our Still Hidden report

Over 15,000 young people in Greater Manchester have slipped under the radar. This workshop is a  chance to find out how hidden young people become disengaged from education and employment. Discover how GM Talent Match engaged this cohort and what needs to change to prevent young people slipping through the gap.

Payment by results and other models: What works and what doesn’t

During the course of the GM Talent Match programme, we have changed the payment model to sub- contractors three times. Hear about our experiences, successes and difficulties, as well as how you can use this learning to improve your delivery.

The glue which keeps partnerships together: creating effective relationships between employers, support organisations and young people

Hear about the methods that we have used for developing relationships between youth organisations, local employment support bodies and employers. Discussions will focus on building strong foundations, being prepared for problems and understanding what each party can offer and gain.

Creating the difference:  how to influence decision makers and commissioners in policy, programme and service design

Across all sectors, there are examples of good practice, learning and innovation.  How do we bring our learning to the attention of key decision makers to bring about change? This workshop will explore how GM Talent Match achieved this and how you can do the same.
