This month, a group of young people joined TransPennine Express for an informative World of Work day.
Owned by parent company First Group, who employ over 100,000 people, this was a great opportunity for young people to hear about the variety of roles on offer at TransPennine Express.
Taking place at their site in Huddersfield, representatives from TransPennine Express were able to give the group a tour of Huddersfield station, talking through the different job roles across the platform, gateline and booking office, as well as conductor, driver and team leader roles.
This was followed by a presentation about the rail industry and how employees are trained for their roles. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear first-hand from two young people currently working with TransPennine Express - an apprentice, and a young person taking part in TransPennine Express’s programme with the Princes Trust - who spoke about their experiences of working with the company.
Talent Coach Dora Mallott said: “It was a fantastic day, the staff at Huddersfield were very welcoming to our young people and made them feel at ease and at home.
“It was superb to hear from the apprentices, especially as they worked in different areas of the company, so they could talk about the different jobs - not just the typical roles you might think of. The young people were very impressed and inspired by this, which was great, all of the feedback from them was very positive.”
