Jasmine's Story

Jasmine, 24 from Bolton has set up her own multi-media creative arts business, Forbidden Tree Productions, alongside her partner, with support of Greater Manchester Talent Match.

When Jasmine, who has autism, joined the programme in April 2015, she was struggling to set up as self-employed. She lacked the business knowledge to set up her own business despite having the relevant qualifications.

Jasmine was unemployed and lacking direction.

During her time on Greater Manchester Talent Match, Jasmine was supported by Amy Stott, her Talent Coach based at United Response to attend a number of opportunities offer support on her journey to self-employment.

Jasmine attended a 1:1 Coffee and Catch up with Jayne Allman, the Founder and Business Advisor at Banana Enterprise Network to find out more about setting up her own business. She then got some expert advice from Steve Brown, a business consultant at Charnwood Comms to find out more about the day-to-day running of a business.

Jayne said, “When I met Jasmine, she had decided on her business idea and had already made excellent progress in the planning phase. She wanted advice on the legal structure of the business so we discussed the pros and cons of which to choose and she decided to become a partnership.

“We also discussed business planning and the importance of having agreements with customers so everyone is clear about what will be delivered, when it will be delivered and for how much. Jasmine is such an inspiration to others and it’s great to see she has now started her business!””

Having now set up her business, Jasmine said, “It has given me motivation and hope that we can succeed in making our own business. Working on this has been a positive distraction from being depressed. Being part of Greater Manchester Talent Match has given me direction and knowledge of how to set up my own business, which has helped my life become more worthwhile and helped with my stress levels.”

Jasmine’s Talent Coach Amy said, “Jasmine is making positive steps into the world of business. She is using her creative talent to sculpt a future for herself”.

Forbidden Tree Productions is a media production and creative arts company specialising in filming, editing, writing, photography, special effects and artworks, including sculpting, canvas paintings and digital forms of art for poster and album work.

Jasmine explains, “We are the whole package rather than one specific area of media or art, we can provide specific skills where needed.”

Forbidden Tree Productions have a studio in Bolton town centre where they operate from and also a small office in Stockport.
