Andy Burnham on stage at the Big Conversation

The Big Conversation 2018
The Big Conversation took place on 17th January, bringing together young people and employers to have a meaningful conversation about youth unemployment.  The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, was in attendance to deliver the keynote speech, with an emphasis on the need for a 'curriculum for life', to support young people in life-readiness, and more affordable travel.

Newly Appointed Operations Manager
We are happy to announce that Katherine Bird has been appointed Operations Manager. This post will work alongside out current Programme Manager, Marie Graham, whose focus will shift to the development and resourcing of a legacy programme.

Recent Commissioning
We are also pleased to announce the commencement of two projects going into our final year of delivery: 1) The Local Employer Support Project, designed to build relationships between local employers and our Talent Coaches, will be delivered by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and 2) The Mental Health Support Project, to be delivered by MIND in Greater Manchester, will enable Talent Coaches to provide support and guidance to their young people.

Greater Manchester Talent Match staff met with members of a Balfour Beatty ‘High Potentials’ Project Team at the end of 2017 to look at their recommendations around programme communications. The team of six Balfour Beatty staff reviewed the programme’s communications strategies and processes. The team’s work culminated in a detailed report containing a number of recommendations, which we will be implementing over the coming months.

My Story: Young people on the Greater Manchester Talent Match programme

Cicely Hill, pictured with Andy Burnham and some members of the Youth Panel, has been made chair of the Youth Panel. Her Talent Coach, Becky Harding from Antz Junction, said, 'we are so proud of how far Cicely has come, her motivation and confidence are clear for all to see. This is such a huge achievement and thouroughly deserved. I believe Cicely will continue to grow in her new role and help support other young people. Antz Junction will conintue to support her in all she does'.
