At the end of November, a group of Talent Coaches and young people visited the BBC for a fascinating World of Work visit.
The visit started in the Strictly Come Dancing Boardroom where David Longworth, Apprenticeships and Training Schemes Manager, talked through the various job types and careers available at the BBC. These included content making for programmes, journalism, business, administration, technology, studio and worldwide positions.
David went on to explain about the ways in which the BBC recruits, up and coming pre-employment schemes, work experience opportunities and about what type of contracts the BBC offers e.g. fixed term, permanent, freelance etc.
The young people also had a chance to see how the BBC Careers Hub worked and to have their questions answered. More information can be found on the Careers Hub on-line.
Talent Coaches and young people got to visit the set of North West tonight and BBC Breakfast, where some young people instantly felt at home in front of the camera!
The visit ended with a trip to the Blue room, which showcases the best in contents and services from the BBC as well as innovative technology currently under development. A Talent Match young person said that he had had his eyes opened by the visit and now had a clearer idea of the career path that he would like to follow.
Nisha Frizzell, Employer Engagement Officer, concluded that “The passion of all the BBC staff really shone through and David did a fantastic job of enlightening us on how to access the huge variety of career choices available with the BBC. A very entertaining and engaging visit.”
