On Wednesday 2nd August, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service hosted a Volunteering Taster Day for Talent Coaches and young people on Greater Manchester Talent Match.

Volunteer Co-ordinators went through the range of volunteering opportunities available as a Fire Service Volunteer from an Events and Campaigns Volunteer to the Post-incident team or a Caged Football Volunteer.

They talked about the benefits of volunteering with the fire service which include access to internal jobs and apprenticeships and a range of training courses. Talent Coaches and young people were also given the opportunity to take part in practical activities including going up the fire engines hydraulic lift 32m in the air and using the hose on the fire engine.Image of seven people smiling. Victoria Chalmers, Talent Coach from Pure Innovations said “It was absolutely fantastic, had a great time too and we felt that we benefited greatly from the day”.

Any young people who apply for volunteering with GMFRS will be given the opportunity to have extra support with the application process.
