We are delighted to announce that the Greater Manchester Talent Match Youth Panel, have racked up 1,991 hours of volunteering over the last year, the equivalent of nearly 3 months non-stop volunteering.

Volunteering with the Youth Panel covers everything from planning events and campaigns to cooking and rafting. The Youth Panel’s current recent venture is a social media campaign focusing on improving support for mental health issues at work.

The Youth Panel also take a more serious role in the area of youth unemployment, working as a team to support with the planning, design and evaluation of local employment support services.

Fran Barratt, 20 from Hattersley has been volunteering with the Youth Panel for just over a year and she said. She says: “Volunteering has increased my confidence and I have worked with other people, getting more involved in things and doing things like public speaking which I would have never done before. I have met employers and given a voice to other young people through my volunteering”.

Nicola Jacques, 24 from Newton Heath has logged over 300 hours since the Talent Match programme began. She says "Being part of the Youth Panel has given myself and young people a voice in Greater Manchester and it continues being heard. We are being listened to by employers and other organisations. We are part of a team that helps to steer the direction of Talent Match which is aimed at getting young people with barriers into employment. I love being part of it".

All members of the groups have self-acknowledged ‘barriers’ to employment, from problems with anxiety and depression to being a carer or care leaver.

Marie Graham, Programme Manager for Greater Manchester Talent Match said, “The importance of the Youth Panel cannot be understated. We are delighted to have the support of such dedicated and enthusiastic young people who go above and beyond to make sure their voice is heard where it is needed”.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK – and takes place from the 1-7 June 2017.
