Is this course for you ?
This course is for adults who need to improve their maths skills. Students can improve addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages and money skills and are expected to complete a functional skills qualification.
What do you need to get on the course ?
There are no entry requirements. You will be sent an appointment for a short assessment and interview with one of the course tutors before starting the course. This is to make sure we place you in the correct level.
How long is the course ?
Most students study the course for one year but it is possible to study for a shorter or longer period if necessary.
When will you be attending ?
You must attend for 2 hours a week, but some students can study for up to 4 hours a week.
When does the course start ?
Most students start in either September or January but it is possible to join at other times.
What is the course about ?
Students brush up on their maths skills and cover topics such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, measurements, money, time and shapes. Students also learn how to apply this knowledge in a practical way.
How will you be assessed ?
After completing an initial assessment at interview you will also complete a diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the course. This will help your tutor decide what level and areas you need to work on. Class work and homework will be assessed throughout the year to prepare you for your external tests.
What qualification will you achieve ?
Functional maths at the appropriate level (Entry 1- Level 2)
What can this course lead to ?
Other college courses, employment or training. After you have achieved Level 2 you can apply for GCSE maths
