Aspiring Futures in Wigan
Aspiring Futures is the employment and skills service for young people in Wigan borough. We provide careers information and advice for young people aged 13 to 19 (or to 25 if they have a special educational need or disability).
As part of our service, we offer a tailored work experience service and work alongside various learning providers and employers across the borough to ensure young people have access and support to progress into the most suitable post 16 opportunities.
Our progression advisers and mentors provide independent and impartial advice and support to young people aged 16 to 19 (and up to 25 for those with learning difficulties and disabilities), who are not in employment, education or training, helping them to decide on their future and find opportunities.
Our service includes:
- Careers advice and guidance
- Support with job searching and applications to apprenticeship and traineeships
- Job applications, CVs and interview preparation
- Access to work experience and placement opportunities
- Help with referrals to specialist services and agencies as appropriate.
We deliver the ‘Connect 2’ ESF programme, working with young people aged 15-19 who are not in education, employment or training, or who are at risk of dropping out of opportunities.
Work experience offers an insight into the world of work, allowing individuals to gain transferrable skills like communication, confidence, and team work. It will help young people enter future employment, as well as assist them in pursuing both further and higher education.
Work experience can be offered across various job roles and teams and is tailored to the individual’s needs. This service is available to all residents across the borough and can also be delivered as part of our services to schools offer.
