Ian has been with GMCVO since April 2007 and his current role is Director of Development. He is tasked with increasing the proportion of income from trading and longer term programmes.
Ian’s background includes local authority housing pioneering tenant participation in redevelopment (1980’s), practicing as a landscape architect and as the Director of the Community Technical Aid Centre (CTAC) a community architecture/landscape design practice. Working with communities to address their issues, build on local assets and take an enterprising approach has informed his approach to community development.
Ian has worked hard to address the inequitable access to opportunities. This includes improving Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise access to professional services, community facilities, green energy initiatives, training and funding. A consistent strand of his approach has been to design projects and programmes from a service user/beneficiary perspective and challenging institutional processes that perpetuate inequity.
Greater Manchester Talent Match embodies much of those guiding principles constructing a process aimed to reach those that have been marginalised by the institutions that should engage them; to commission services using the strength and trust in community assets both as host organisations and individuals (Talent Coaches); and to influence the mainstream to change their approach. It will be a pleasure to contribute in any way to the future of the Talent Match programme.
